Reclaim Your Weekend With These 5 Changes
Most of us spend the weekend frantically catching up from the week gone by, trying to prepare for the week ahead, all the while trying to enjoy the rest we deserve. If you’re finding yourself spending most of the weekend looking at a long list of chores, it’s time to change your cleaning routine. Here are five changes we know will make a huge difference in your life.
1. Follow a Daily Routine
Break up the cleaning into manageable tasks and smaller timeframes that works for you. Thinking about your weekly obligations, set a day for one important task: bathrooms, dusting, vacuuming, mopping, and bedsheets/towels. We also recommend assigning one day per week to catch up on anything missed. This lets you miss days without comprising your entire week.
2. Complete a “Closing Shift”
A popular cleaning trend online is to complete a “closing shift” each evening, and we totally get why. Spending 10-15 minutes tidying up your space before bed keeps mess and clutter to a minimum, but also allows you to wake up in the morning without an instant reminder of last nights dinner. A quick rest should include:
wiping down surfaces and putting away dishes
clearing up clutter and placing it back to its home
fluffing pillows, folding blankets, and straightening furniture.
These small practices makes any home look tidy in a short amount of time.
3. Don’t Leave Laundry Till the Weekend
Laundry can easily build up into many piles: to be washed, to be folded, to be ironed, and to be put away. If your weekend is feeling completely focused on laundry, we recommend making it a habit to do washing multiple times during the week. You can also take advantage of delayed cycles to coincide with your mornings or evenings. Need a hand? We offer laundry as part of our housekeeping services!
4. Use Fridays as a Reset
It is tempting to relax the moment we get home on a Friday, however this can lead to much more work over the weekend. We recommend wrapping up the week by handling a selection of tasks that make your weekend feel less task heavy, including:
decluttering and cleaning high-traffic areas
putting back out of place items
clearing out the fridge and emptying the rubbish.
5. See Your Weekends as Maintenance Cleans Only
Instead of considering the weekend as your only chance for a full home clean, we want to see it as the time for quick maintenance cleaning. To keep on top over the weekend, we recommend doing a 30 minute refresh on a Saturday to reset the home to a baseline and clear up any items from the day. We then suggest using Sunday to rest and prepare for the week ahead. This can include reviewing upcoming plans and obligations, meal planning and prepping, and actually enjoying your down time.
These five tips can help shift your mindset from weekend cleaning madness to a routine that is more effective and sustainable. Finding a balance is key to a calm home, however it isn’t easy doing it alone. We believe our recurring services can help support homes trying to achieve a simplified routine. With the same cleaner every week or fortnight, we can tackle to tasks you can’t and make managing the rest easy.
